Kingston's New DoubleTree Hilton Welcomes LED Filament LightingPosted on 31 Aug 14:43 Read more

Efficient lighting technology reduces energy and maintenance costs without compromising on style.

The DoubleTree, an upmarket 146 bedroom Hilton hotel located on the edge of the town offers stylish and contemporary accommodation, state of the art conference facilities and the hotel’s signature restaurant, Hawkers Bar and Brasserie, which is themed around Kingston’s extensive aviation history.  It is an Art Deco-inspired area with an open-plan kitchen and an enclosed outside dining terrace.

Steven Brazil, General Manager at DoubleTree by Hilton in Kingston said, “Aesthetically we were looking to create a modern and industrial décor and the Bright Goods LED filament lamps definitely helped us achieve this. They look fantastic and we have received some really positive feedback from our hotel guests who have commented on their vintage-modern design. We wanted to incorporate ‘mood lighting’ which could be altered throughout the day and into the evening and as these lamps are fully controllable, and can be dimmed when required, they were exactly what we were looking for.”

Matt Parker, project lighting designer of The Light Corporation added, “We use Bright Goods lamps in every project we do in the hospitality sector and trust them for reliability, longevity and consistency of colour.  Two years down the line after our first installation of Bright Goods lamps, they are still going strong, not a single lamp failure which is fantastic.  It is good for us as it proves we are with the right supplier and good for Bright Goods as it verifies their longevity. We know they work, they look great and they perform but more than that, they are going to last a long time.”

Bright Goods illuminates Fuller's pubs nationwidePosted on 10 Aug 00:00 Read more

We are bringing you breaking news - our Bright Goods LED filament lamps are being installed throughout the Fuller's managed pub estate to reduce energy and maintenance costs. The project has been designed, managed and delivered by The Light Corporation.

Bright Goods LED filament lamps were first installed in The Sail Loft, a newly built Fuller's pub in Greenwich, in a lighting scheme created by The Light Corporation. The Sail Loft is part of the new Greenwich Reach development, with floor-to-ceiling glass windows on three sides and a large terrace facing the Thames with views of Canary Wharf, Cutty Sark and the O2 Arena. Its interior takes inspiration from its location, and features nautical touches and maritime bric-a-brac adorning the walls.

Tim Henderson, Director of The Light Corporation, said "We gave the lighting a nautical spin, locating the Bright Goods lamps within basket-style lampshades for example. Bright Goods LED filament lamps are in a class of their own for this kind of setting, offering energy efficient LED technology in a warm, retro style that perfectly suited the ambiance of the pub. The Sail Loft is a large open plan site able to seat 300 people - yet the lighting makes it intimate especially in the evening."

Fuller's was impressed with both the appearance of the lights and the energy efficiencies achieved, and contracted The Light Corporation to survey a substantial part of its managed estate of just under 200 pubs, and recommend low Bright Goods LED replacements for each light on the premises. Bright Goods LED lamps are also being fitted into existing Fuller's pubs as they are refurbished and to other new pubs as they are built. Pubs completed include The Tea Merchant, Canary Wharf; The Pilot; Chiswick, The Queen's Head, Hammersmith; The Hydrant, Monument; The Pilgrim Inn, Southampton; The White Hart Hotel, Hampton and The William Walker, Winchester.

Commenting, Peter Turner, Property Director at Fuller's said: "We were very impressed with the appearance of Bright Goods LED lights. They provide illumination that is as warm and welcoming as a filament bulb, maintaining the all-important ambience of the pub in the evening. It is also highly controllable, and can be dimmed as required. It allows us to maintain a traditional feel while reducing our carbon footprint."

Saima Shafi, Sales and Marketing Director at LED Eco Lights added, "Bright Goods LED lamps can in may cases be slotted directly into a fitting to replace the existing filament, fluorescent or halogen lamp, reducing the replacement cost and enhancing the return on investment. In some cases, the energy saving can be as much as 75% - reducing carbon emissions by over 40 tonnes per year."

Cleaning Tips: How To Keep Your Light Bulbs & Lamps Sparkling CleanPosted on 13 Jun 14:27 Read more

When we are giving our home a lovely spring clean we tend to forget one of the most important features in the house, the lighting. Keeping your light bulbs and lampshades clean can have a massive impact on your room lighting; the cleaner the bulb the brighter it is.

Make sure that you keep your light bulb clean to its full potential, so it can help keep your room looking bright, clean and fresh, rather than it looking dark and gloomy.

Therefore, we thought it would be a good idea to give you some cleaning tips on how to keep your light bulbs and lamps sparkling clean.

Reminder! Turn your lights off and wait for the light bulb to cool down before removing. LED light bulbs are cool to touch so no wait time is needed.  It is always important to make sure halogen or non-LED light bulbs are cooled down before you clean to prevent burning yourself.

    How To Clean Pendant lights:

Using a soft, lint-free damp cloth with a drop of washing up liquid or cleaning solution, gently wipe away all dust and dirt from the pendant light. Once cleaned, use a microfiber cloth to polish the pendant light, making sure there are no smears left from any residue. Once done, your pendant is ready to hang.

    How To Clean Chandeliers:

Whether your chandler is glass or crystal, it is best to find the right cleaning solution that works well. We suggest to fill up a bowl of warm water with a drop of washing up liquid to clean the chandeliers. You should dust your chandelier at least once a week with a feather duster, this can help keep the dust and cobwebs at bay for a while, but every now and then it is best to give it a thorough clean.

    Extra Tips for Chandeliers:

If your chandelier isn’t too big, then it is best to take it down and place onto a soft towel. If you can’t remove the chandelier then it is best to use a step ladder, allowing you to reach the chandelier to give it a good clean.

Start by cleaning the chandelier with a cleaning solution, followed by polishing with a microfiber cloth. Another note is if your chandelier has crystal, it is best to wear soft, white, lint- free gloves; this is to prevent any finger prints from appearing on the crystal after you have finished cleaning.

For any chandelier that may be too high or has a too elaborate design, it might be best to call a professional cleaning service to clean it or you.

    How To Clean Ceiling fixtures:

Carefully remove the ceiling fixture which ever material it may be, glass, crystal or plastic and put it in a bowl or a sink filled with warm water. Add a little drop of washing up liquid if you don’t have any cleaning solution.  Let it soak. Whilst you are waiting, start cleaning the light bulbs themselves remembering to remove once cooled and make sure you keep them away from water. Using a damp, cloth gently wipe the bulb clean followed by a microfiber cloth to help dry and polish the bulbs.

Now remove the fixture from the soapy water and start to remove any dirt or dust build up using a sponge. Then rinse the fixture in clean water, followed by drying it off with a dry towel or microfiber cloth.

How To Clean Light Bulbs (including LED filament):

If you have halogen light bulbs, you need to wait until the bulb has cooled down before removing from the fitting. For halogen light bulbs, we recommend that you remove the bulbs in the morning when they are not in use and have cooled down from the night before. LED light bulbs are cool to touch so there is no need to wait for these bulbs to cool down. Using a damp cloth, wipe away any dust or dirt from the bulb. Make sure your cloth isn’t soaking wet as you don’t want any water going inside the electronics.

After you have dried with a soft, microfiber cloth, it is recommended to leave the bulb out to air-dry for about 15-20 minutes before you attach it back into its original fixture.  This way you will know the light bulb is fully dry and won’t cause any damage when you reattach the light bulb to the fixture.

Alternatively, you can use soft brush head on your hoover and gently hoover the dust.

    How To Clean Lampshades:

There are a few ways to clean your lampshades, although it can be a little tricky depending on what fabric the lampshade is made from. Here are some well-known materials that lampshades are made from.

How To Clean Fabric Light Shades

It is best to start off by hoovering the lamp shade, making sure you remove all the dust and dirt before you start to properly clean it. Some fabric lampshades can be removed from their metal frame. If you can remove the material from the frame then do so. Let the fabric soak in some soapy water, then after you have let it soak, using a cloth or a very soft brush to remove the dirt. Rinse the fabric with clean water and then put the fabric back onto its frame to let it air-dry to prevent the fabric from shrinking. To get the best results, attach the full lampshade to a piece of string and let it hang over the bath tub to dry or on the washing line.

Any fabric that has ruffles or ridges, you can use your fingers to remould it back to its original shape.

    How To Clean Paper:

Do not wash any paper lampshade in a bowl of water! The paper will just go soft and deteriorate into small pieces. The best way to clean it would be with a duster or a hoover to remove the dust and dirt from the lampshade. Then if need be, using a damp cloth, very gently rub to remove the dirt. Don’t be tough on the paper lampshade as it can tear.

How To Clean Parchment Light Shades:

This particular kind of material is delicate too and the best way to clean it is the same way you would clean a paper lampshade ( this is to avoid damaging the parchment). Do not use any sharp or metal tools to clean your lampshade, again this will damage your parchment lampshade. Not only can you use a hoover to clean your lampshade, but you can even use a lint roller as the stickiness will pick up all the dirt and dust as you roll over the lampshade.

    How To Plastic Light Shades

If you regularly clean your lamp shade, whether by dusting or hoovering it, it will help keep your lampshade cleaner for longer, but it is important once in a while to give it a good clean. Plastic lampshades are probably one of the easiest lampshades to clean.  You can wipe away any tough dirt using a damp cloth, or you can remove the lampshade from its fixing and place it into a bowl of soapy water, and using a sponge to remove the dirt.  To dry the lampshade, you can use a clean towel or a piece of kitchen roll.

    Other materials:

Depending on how heavy the lampshade or frame is, it is best to remove the lampshade from the fixture and place it into a bowl of soapy water. Using a soft brush or sponge will help to remove any dirt from the lampshade or frame. Then rinse the lampshade or frame with clean water, and let it dry. To dry your lampshade or frame use a dry clean cloth, microfiber cloth or towel, to wipe away any droplets of water, whilst you are doing this try to buff in circular motions to help polish the lampshade or frame to prevent any marks.

Restaurant LightingPosted on 2 Jun 14:00 Read more

As we all know a restaurant is a place not to only to try out new food to eat, but also to socialise. With Bright Goods LED filament lights, we have helped to create a warm welcoming atmosphere to a few different restaurants around the UK. Here are some restaurants that have installed some of Bright Goods LED filament bulbs.

    Nando’s:

Nando’s restaurant located in Guildford have refurbished their lighting with Bright Goods LED filament bulbs, including The Edward and the Joseph light bulbs. The Edward globe bulbs can be seen fitted in front of the window of the restaurant, not only does it add warm light to the restaurant but also creates a lovely window feature.

Inside the restaurant, the Joseph GLS light bulbs are connected to dangling yellow and red entwined rope creating a spectacular lighting statement. The LED bulbs have a bright, warm glow to them and can also be dimmed to create a relaxing and comfortable atmosphere whilst you enjoy your meal.

    Handmade Burger Co:

The interior of Handmade Burger Co in Glasgow is illuminated by Bright Goods LED filament bulbs, Florence, sepia maxi globes, and Joseph, clear GLS bulbs.

To emphasise their lighting, Handmade Burger co have made a nice feature out of their glass jars which hold the LED bulbs inside. The jars are dangling in a row from suspended wires attached to the high ceiling. This is shown in the photograph below.

The rest of the LED light bulbs have been placed around the restaurant on longer cords to create a retro theme. These light bulbs are suitable for restaurant interiors, as the light bulbs can  be dimmed, meaning that they are still bright enough for restaurant visitors. These LED light bulbs recreate the industrial theme found in the most restaurant today. The bulbs can also be dimmed down to create a more cosier atmosphere.

    Pizza Express:

Pizza Express located in Resorts World, Birmingham is a new restaurant build who opted for warm interior lighting with the Joseph LED filament light bulbs from Bright Goods. The Joseph bulbs have been fitted to several dangling wires, which are encased with black metal caged lampshades to give an Art Deco vintage style look. This lighting feature looks striking against the cream wooden walls and brick walls which help to compliment the industrial theme.

    GOAT:

Filled with a blue and brown coloured interior, GOAT in Chelsea wanted their lighting to be warm to compliment their theme. The Bright Goods LED filament bulbs, Anne, Catherine, Elizabeth, Charles, Jane and Rose were installed throughout the restaurant and bar areas.

A mixture of LED bulbs are placed on the different themed walls, including both the wallpaper and blue painted walls, which helps to compliment the re-styling of an old building with updated modern charm.

    DF Mexico:

DF Mexico is a Mexican themed restaurant evoking their country’s themed interior. Bright Goods was recommended to DF Mexico and they decided to install the JosephLED Filament light bulbs, which has helped to add a bright, delicate warm glow to the restaurant. The new lighting has helped to compliment the bright Mexican colours throughout the restaurant to give you the imaginary feeling of being inside a traditional Mexican restaurant.
